About Wooden Horse Books

Einstein

The short history of Wooden Horse Books is this:

  1. Wooden Horse Books used to be a quaint used and antiquarian bookstore in the charming village of Poultney, Vermont.
  2. After a few years of operation, our quaint used and antiquarian bookstore morphed into an online store that sold new books, along with things like KEM playing cards, mystery party games, and jigsaw puzzles.  It was still kind of quaint in an internet-ish sort of way, still in Vermont, certainly more financially successful, and earned us friends and customers from all over America, and beyond.
  3. In 2004, for family reasons, I made the decision to leave Vermont.  The business closed.
  4. But . . . I didn't want to just take this website down, and leave people wondering what happened to us.  And yes, there's a thought in the back of my head that I might open Wooden Horse Books again some day, possibly as a quaint used and antiquarian bookstore.  (Some dreams never die.)
  5. So, here we are.  I suppose the website is a bit of a hobby, now.  I've recently decided that it would be a good forum to talk about books, which explains part of the newer content on our website.  Sometimes I've been stumped about what to read next - believe it or not, this happened to me even when I owned a bookstore - and I thought this website could be a sort of brain prod for people stuck in that position, by recommending good books.  You don't always have to agree with our recommendations, and actually I hope you don't, because I prize independence; but if our recommendations get you thinking, then this site will have served its purpose.
